History - Respectful Memories

Doc Harvey W. & Bob H.

We were so blessed to have these two gentlemen among us. Both of these men passed on sober after serving our community for decades. Bob named himself “Poor Old Bob” in a humorous gesture of humility. He quickly saw how the program worked on “all my old resentments. They went away totally, as soon as I honestly did the work of AA.”

Spence D.

Truly one of the most influential and trusted servants of Austin, Texas AA. Spence always had time to encourage newcomers. Teaching us that “the directions are in the book”. Sharing such great wisdom as “Never get in the way of a drunk’s last drink… or their misery.” He knew that every alcoholic must hit bottom. We quote him all the time.

“Don’t drink, Trust God, Clean house, Help others!”

The Wimberley Gang in 1987.

Well, we’ve got some folks here still with us. Some have passed on. (L to R) We have Margie & Craig K. - Pat C. - Bill & Peg E. - Jack C.

Many of the old timers attended meetings all around the Austin and Central Texas area. Btw, for KFTF members who have visited the 617 Foundation, this is the “Bill E.” mentioned on the Founder’s Memorial on the back wall of the room.

Buddy & Jo M.

Buddy helped so many men get into recovery. Like all the wonderful old timers who showed us the way, Buddy loved to tell a good story and laugh. He would tell us “Keep it simple. My goodness, you could complicate a bowling bal!”
